Hardreset:
1. Once the handset has rebooted to the Today Screen, enter the following code: *2767*3855#. The handset should display a message “Formatting- Please wait a moment”.
2. The phone will reboot after the Full Reset as this is normal operation

Found this somewhere and it works. To turn 3g off simply go to wireless manager and disconect data. Then quickly dial *#1546792*# and you will be able to change the network preference to GSM. the data connection comes back quick so if you dont change it quickly the settings will not stick. Hope this helps.
I could not get GSM to stick. It keeps going back to auto. What is the trick?
You have to disconnect data first under wireless manager. The data connection will want to start back up quickly so you have to make the changes fast. The problem seems to be the data is blocking you from changing the setting
